i had the opportunity to talk with an old friend today. we discussed the differences that we experience between our generation and the youth of today. i wonder how this generation is called: generation z/aa/a1. as this is my 40th year, i imagine my mother having this conversation about how different the kids are. i wonder if the changes we see are of degrading moral values, a rising of a new consciousness, or just simple evolution.
it would seem that the kids are academically smart yet bored. they lack the ability to reason and to think logically. it also seems that they have personality traits of either ADD or narcissism or both. yet who doesn't.
please don't be saddened/angered etc. by my comments as they do not apply to an entire generation. it is just that i am engaging more and more with youth and these are some commonalities that I have experienced.
i have no way of knowing if this is the plight of America or if this is something that communities should address. i yearn to support our youth in growing into mature adults who are ready and able to do what is there's to do.
well my friend and i, while very passionate about this topic, remained clueless as to what we could do that would be effective in reaching our youth. if learning to love themselves or appreciate the Divine within and within others is what is missing. if yes, what is the most effective means to engage this population.
any suggestions?
